A convict facing death penalty allegedly committed suicide inside the Hindalga Central Prison on Saturday evening. The incident has raised questions about the security system inside the jail. According to the prison authorities, Nanjappa Shivananjappa (25) was charged with attempt to rape and murder of a minor girl at his village, Yedahalli of Mysuru taluk, in 2011.He was convicted by the District and Sessions Court in Mysuru in February 2013. The authorities said that Nanjappa took his bed-sheet to the toilet around 7.30 p.m. and hung himself. The staff from the Rural Police station, after receiving the information, rushed to the jail and conducted ‘panchanama’ late night.
What was the reason of taking this step earlier is difficult to find out..
